CITY: The Approach
CITY starts with the premise that youth, their families, and their communities all possess strengths upon which they can build. From this premise evolves a comprehensive approach to community support, which fosters collaboration with existing neighborhood resources to strengthen communities, one youth at a time.
CITY will support, nurture and provide opportunities to vulnerable youth through programs including:
- Individual healing
- Mentoring
- Leadership development
- Supportive jobs for youth
- Community engagement
- Tracking via the Peace Hub
CITY seeks to ensure that youth are:
- Safe and healing from trauma
- Academically successful and focused on careers
- Engaged leaders
CITY will also support communities as they commit to provide youth with the collaborative services they need and deserve. UCAN will pilot this approach in the North Lawndale and Altgeld Gardens communities in Chicago, and expand to additional Chicagoland communities in upcoming years.
