Each year, UCAN's Youth Leadership Awards Dinner recognizes the academic and personal achievements of some of our most outstanding youth, providing scholarships for secondary education to five individuals. A special award goes to the John E. Rooney Dynamic Scholar of the Year, sponsored by John E. Rooney a life-long UCAN supporter and former CEO of U.S. Cellular who recently passed away.

UCAN also annually recognizes a Corporate Honoree for his/her exceptional commitment to the children and families of Illinois; this year, we will honor Walgreens.
                                               
The event emcee will be LeAnn Trotter of NBC 5.  And, we are thrilled to announce that this year's keynote speech will be delivered by  President's Board member Steve Pemberton. Steve has just released his powerful memoir, A Chance in the World and not only has an impressive professional resume, but also has an incredible personal story of triumph that is especially inspiring. He is the first person to hold the Divisional Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer position in Walgreens' 110 year history and has also been recognized as one of the nation's leaders on matters of diversity and inclusion and their importance to the growth of the American industrial complex. A ward of the state for much of his childhood, Steve has made opportunity, access and equality pillars of his personal and professional life.

Along with honoring our youth with scholarships; guests will mingle with our future leaders and enjoy a reception, dinner, and live auction. Guests, including corporate and foundation partners, community leaders, donors and UCAN youth, have the chance to learn more about UCAN and to see our vision come to life: Youth who have suffered trauma can become our future leaders.

The Youth Leadership Awards Dinner is UCAN's flagship fundraising event, working to raise the funds needed to continue to provide quality programs for those in need and inspiring attendees to work together on behalf of UCAN's 13,500 children, youth and families served.
