Parents Anonymous®

Parents Anonymous® is a program that promotes mutual support and parent leadership to build and support strong, safe families. UCAN is licensed to run Parents Anonymous® in all of Illinois and is proud to offer it as one of our thirty programs. Parent-led support groups using Parents Anonymous'® Shared Leadership model allow parents to meet weekly and exchange support, insight, and resources that help them be the best parents they can be. UCAN is dedicated to empowering parents by providing them with the resources to successfully navigate their diverse parenting journeys.

On February 1, 2011, Parents Anonymous® launched the National Parent Helpline, providing immediate culturally and linguistically relevant support and guidance by trained professional advocates. The hotline can be reached Monday through Friday from 10:00am - 7:00pm Pacific Standard Time at 1-855-4A PARENT. The professional advocates will help parents resolve parenting issues; offer a caring, listening ear to reduce stress, and will empower parents with resources and a connection to a network of other parents experiencing similar struggles. It is Parents Anonymous'® goal for parents to find camaraderie and acceptance as they find solutions together.

The Helpline will be able to assist all parents with positive discipline techniques, effective communication strategies, stress reduction, personal care and safety - whether they participate in a Parents Anonymous® support group or not . In addition, it will provide parents with help for those more humbling situations that inhibit their confidence to raise their families, including a need for health, mental health, and/or substance use treatment; and the effects of under-education, financial strain, and unstable housing. Helpline Advocates can also connect with parents through the website's e-mail and community message board; and will connect parents to the Helpline's extensive online library of learning resources.

We are thrilled to announce that one of our clients, Erica Monique Hewitt,
recently won the national 2010 Jolly K. Award for parent leadership.
In addition, UCAN staff member Pavla Binkins won an Illinois 2010 Juanita Chavez award for her work with her Parents Anonymous group; this marks the second year in a row that a UCAN staff member has won this award.
