UCAN-SPONSORED HEALTH FAIR HELPS KIDS AND FAMILIES
Low-income families received free health care and lifestyle information at a fair hosted by UCAN's Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Relocation Services at the Jenner School in August. The event served one hundred eighty one children, youth, and parents : 74 received Blood Pressure Screenings; 6 were tested for HIV; 61 received BloodGlucose/Diabetes Screenings; 10 signed up for free additional healthcare services through the Harmony Healthcare Plan; 150 healthy lunches were donated by UCAN, a social service agency, to local churches for their summer youth programs. The City of Chicago's care van immunized twenty Chicago Public School youth who otherwise would have been unable to start school on time. Among the participants were Children's Memorial Hospital, DePaul Systems of Care, Sacred Heart, and Harmony Health Care. Health Fairs are just one of many support services our CHA team provides to occupants of public housing as they transition into their new neighborhoods.
