May 2007 Youth Advocacy Awards Scholarship Dinner


At the 8th Annual Youth Advocacy Awards Dinner, May 30 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Chairman and CEO William C. Foote, father of five and civic leader, accepted an award for community support on behalf of USG. Nora Daley accepted The Civic Honoree Award in honor of The Honorable Richard M. Daley. Ms. Doris Parris was honored as Foster Parent of the Year.

The annual Youth Advocacy Awards Dinners celebrate the accomplishments of young people who have changed their lives with the help of our social service programs and the support of our dedicated staff.

Young woman wins awardTiffany Lewis (right) received the John E. Rooney Dynamic Scholar Award. An active participant in UCAN's Young Leadership Development Institute, Tiffany started out as a shy young lady who is now a community leader. She has helped organize events around critical youth issues such as gun violence, dating violenxe and anger management. She has led advocacy efforts and participated in press conferences with Senator Richard Durbin to heighten public awareness of these issues.

This $5,000 grant for tuition, books, or class fees at an accredited two- or four-year college was created by the senior leadership team of U. S. Cellualr in honor of President and CEO John E. Rooney. The award benefits a young person at UCAN who shows the potential to lead others to success in life.

Four other outstanding young people received Youth Advocacy Scholarship Awards: 
Ashonty Johnson, Rashan Martin, Johnathan Andres, and Duryea Briscoe. All have been active in UCAN programs.
