Teen Parenting Service Network

RealTalk

At UCAN, we're always looking for ways to promote  healthy growth and development in our clients. That's why we created a special event for pregnant and parenting teens in TPSN (Teen Parenting Service Network).  Gathering at the Yahweh Amore Salon in Broadview, a group of young women received complete beauty makeovers: manicures, make-up consultations, and hair styling. But the real goal was much more than achieving greater physical beauty -- although that was important to them. The event also enabled them to develop a new sense of their self-worth through discussions as well as through the beauty experience. TPSN staff, along with the Development Department's Tawanna Streater, Foundation Relations Officer, talked with the young women about their life experiences and goals as the first step in envisioning a new future for themselves. This event, RealTalk, was the first of four such events the young women will attend in the coming year.  Below, the staff of Yahweh Amore with Tawanna Streater (center) and Yvette Mitchell (right), TPSN staff.

Thank you, Alberto Culver, for your generous support of this event.
