Project Visible Man
Project Visible Man (PVM) is a group mentoring program for young men of color ages 13-24. PVM is designed to encourage self-respect and transform dysfunctional behaviors through the exercise of will power, positive reinforcement and real-life role models. Through a series of intensive reality-based services such as "Candid Conversations," PVM guides male youth down a path of self discovery and motivates them to achieve a greater life purpose. PVM provides a platform for boys to navigate a path towards self discovery and self knowledge, and to identify a greater purpose in life.
PVM has three key components:
Forums: 60-100 participants, including those from other agencies, engage in dialogues which bridge the gap of understanding between girls and women, cultural differences, the older generation, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Candid Conversations: These discussions provide a platform for open, honest dialogue between participants and men from various professional industries with a desire to give back. The conversations are used as a vehicle to address the developmental needs of young men of color. These sessions address topics such as conflict management, leadership, self-esteem, sex, manhood, spirituality, education, fatherhood, violence prevention, life principles, healthy lifestyles, cultural identity, economics and financial management.
Community Service: This service offers an opportunity for the program participants to serve the neighborhoods in which they live by giving back to social causes affecting their communities.
"A much needed program for young black men
- enlightening and empowering."
