Angel Corps
In times of tragedy, people may need support and guidance. The Angel Corps is a network of supportive and trained individuals who help people, especially those who are unable to stand by themselves, to navigate the pain and loss of a loved one.
Working in partnership with the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention and Chicago communities affected by violence, the Angel Corps assists victims of violence as they and their families deal with the effects of trauma. As a part of UCAN's Clinical & Counseling Services, the mission of the Angel Corps is to assist those that have been victimized and/or traumatized as a result of experiencing violence. UCAN can assist in various ways by:
- Providing information and community support via our Helpline
- Assisting traumatized individuals in accessing the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund that may pay for various helpful services including therapy, lost wages, and funeral expenses
- Providing guidance from Angel Corps peers who have experienced loss through violence, and who wish to support others through their loss
- Providing victim support groups and individual/family therapy if needed
