U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced that the Senate Appropriations Committee has approved $4,000,000 for projects in the state of Illinois in the Commerce, Justice and Science spending bill.  This includes $450,000 in funding to provide UCAN's 360° Model in AUSL's schools in the North Lawndale and Austin communities of Chicago.  To read the article, click here.

UCAN launches the results of its 2009 Teen Gun Survey, accompanied by Congressman Michael Quigley (IL-5) and Senator Donne Trotter (17th District).  Alarmed by increasing gun violence in their neighborhoods and schools, Chicago teens asked local, state and national policymakers to help keep them safe.  The latest national Teen Gun Survey revealed that more than one in four teens know someone who has been shot - and more than one in three teens fear being shot someday.  Click here to view ABC 7's news coverage.

"Students fight youth violence; say neither gunplay nor bullying should be tolerated at school".  UCAN's second annual Urban Suburban Youth Summit on Gun Violence took place December 5th at George Westinghouse College Prep High School, where youth came together to build solutions to address Chicago's violence.  "Our kids are living in dangerous times," said UCAN spokeswoman Jodi Doane. "It's not an anomaly any more for them to know someone who has been shot. We want violence prevention programs out in the community.
